Ottumwa, IA– The Des Moines National Weather Service has updated a weather briefing concerning hazardous winter weather. There is an incoming winter storm with impactful snowfall Monday into Tuesday. The briefing covers central, southern, eastern Iowa, west into Nebraska and includes the Ottumwa area.
Since the first briefing, the storm has taken a northward shift with an increase in predicted snow and an expanded watch area. We can expect moderate to heavy snowfall to affect southern into central Iowa. There is a 60% chance of 6” of snow or more in areas south and east of Des Moines with Ottumwa having an 86% chance of at least 6 inches of fresh snow.
Breezy winds, mainly Tuesday, may allow for blowing and drifting snow at times, especially where snow accumulations are highest.
