Des Moines, IA – The Des Moines National Weather Service has produced a weather briefing concerning upcoming hazardous winter weather. Periods of snow, blowing snow and a return of dangerously cold wind chills are expected over much of Central Iowa.

Ottumwa is forecast to receive up to two inches of new snow this afternoon and evening, followed by wind peaking tonight around 30 miles an hour. Blowing and drifting snow can be expected. Dangerous wind chills overnight tonight into Friday morning, and again into the weekend will add to the hazard.

Limit your time exposed to extreme cold. Dress in warm layers and protect all exposed skin. If you have to travel, be sure to pack appropriate winter clothing, a safety kit and remain aware of weather and road conditions. Don’t forget to provide your pets warm shelter from the cold!
