As southeast Iowa recovers from the first winter storm of the year, the National Weather Service says another storm will sweep through the area.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning effective from 9:00 PM Thursday to midnight Friday.

The storm is being labeled “multi-faceted” and will feature 5-10 inches of snow, wind gusts up to 40 mph that will produce blowing snow, and ice accumulations up to a light glaze in southeast Iowa.

The National Weather Service says the Friday morning and evening commutes could be very difficult. Blowing snow will great reduce visibility, particularly Friday evening.

Temperatures are also expected to drop. Friday’s low is forecasted to be in the single digits with a wind chill factor near or well below zero. Weekend high temperatures are expected to hover around zero.

The extended forecast shows high temperatures will remain in the single digits until Wednesday.
