Karen Lee Monohon, 69, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, while under hospice care at the home of her sister in Oskaloosa.
Karen “Bush” Monahon, daughter of George Arthur and Alberta Marie (Doud) Inman, was born on October 27, 1954, in Oskaloosa. She was a 1973 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She married Max Sylvester Bush, and two children were born from this union. They later divorced. She worked at Pepsi, as a bartender at the American Legion, and finally as a custodian at the Oskaloosa Junior High School.
Karen’s favorite things to do were play cards, go on road trips, and sit in Marvin and Dee Dee’s gazebo, enjoying a nice day while chatting with family and friends. She enjoyed sharing ghost and UFO sighting stories; if she had the choice, she would run with the wolves. She enjoyed a good laugh, and once she got started, she would have everyone around her laughing with her. You wouldn’t often see her without a cup of hot coffee in her hand (with lots of sugar). She loved animals, especially dogs and horses. Most of all, she loved her family and cooking their favorite meals for them, and she always did what she could to help others.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Angela (John) Armstrong and Jody (Dan) Beason, both of Oskaloosa; her sisters and brother-in-law, Marvin and Delores Schneider of Oskaloosa and Suzanne Holllingshead of Sumter, SC; and her brother: Ricky Inman of Oskaloosa. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Jake (Lesley) Lyman (Aria, Gemma, and Max), Ashley Bush (Daphni and Arie), Kaylee Waters (Widowed) (Marlee, DeShawn, Baby on the way), Colter Fisher (Weston), Jaycee Wells, Gracee Wells, (Elliott and Zuree), Karley Armstrong; and several step-grandchildren.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and a niece, Brenda.
Funeral services for Karen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory with Pastor Mike Linder. Burial will be in the Oskaloosa Friends Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. on Tuesday; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made In Her Name or to St. Jude Children’s Reseach Hospital.
