Dora Mae Mercer, 87, a resident of Fairfield, formerly of Davenport, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be at Grant Cemetery in Rome, Iowa. Memorials may be made to your local animal shelter.
Dora was born October 4, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of George and Pearl (Miller) Dougherty. She married Darrel Mercer, March 23, 1957. He preceded her in death April 10, 1996.
Dora worked for Sears Manufacturing in Davenport. She enjoyed traveling, camping, spending time outdoors. While indoors she was enthralled any world James Patterson was writing about, watching every episode of CSI, and shopping on HSN. Above all things she loved her dogs, Rainn and Gypsy Rose.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, LaVern Mercer of Wapello; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt Tramel) Kleveno and Amanda Kleveno of Gordonsville, TN, Jerad (Maria Arceo) Mercer, Kendra Mercer, and Paige Mercer of Davenport; great-grandchildren, Joseph Kleveno, John and Raelynn Tramel, and Adrian and Juliett Mercer; and her brother, Donald Dougherty.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Theresa Kleveno, and sister, Deloris Kraft.
The family would like to express great gratitude to Parkview Care Center for their endless kindness in caring for Dora in the last 7 years of her life.
