An Ottumwa man faces tampering and other charges for allegedly telling a potential witness not to testify against him.
52-year-old Jamie Picken has been charged with tampering with a witness (aggravated misdemeanor), suborning perjury (Class D felony), and obstructing prosecution (aggravated misdemeanor).
According to court documents, Picken called the female victim from the Wapello County jail various times last month. Picken told the victim to make a false statement during the deposition of his case. Picken also allegedly instructed the victim to not show up for his deposition and refuse to accompany any law enforcement officers to court. These demands were made on a recorded line, according to authorities.
Picken is currently in the Wapello County Jail. His bond has been set at $9,000.
