Bonnie Carol Burgason, 89, of Ottumwa, died November 5, 2023 at Prestige Care Center in Fairfield.
She was born November 11, 1933 in Ottumwa to William Arthur and Lucile Beatrice Stribling Hoogewoning. Bonnie married Albert E. “Abe” Burgason on April 12, 1953 and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1976.
A 1951 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bonnie worked at John Morrell & Co. and Johnson Insurance. She then worked for Ottumwa Public Schools as an aide.
She had been a member of East End Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Sweet Adelines. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, playing cards and family vacations.
Surviving are her two sons, Timm (Laurie) Burgason of Douds and Jack Burgason of Palisade, CO; her daughter, Jane (Chris) Hicks of Ottumwa; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, infant Richard Eugene Burgason and Todd Burgason; and two brothers, William Hoogewoning and Robert Hoogewoning.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 8th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 9th at Ottumwa Cemetery with Pastor Janet Lasley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Heartland Humane Society.
