Police: Fairfield Man Broke into Home, Destroyed Items


A southeast Iowa man is accused of breaking into a residence and destroying items in the home.

35-year-old Marcus Quetulio Losa Welch of Fairfield was charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of South Main Street on Friday. Officers were advised by a citizen that an unknown subject entered his neighbor’s house.

Police arrived at the home, located Welch inside, and he was detained without incident. Officers later realized the homeowner was inside the home when Welch broke in. Further investigation revealed that the homeowner and Welch did not know each other. Officials later found many items in the residence that were damaged or destroyed.

Welch is currently in the Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond.
