On October 4, between approximately 1:20 pm and 1:50 pm CT, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will send test messages to all cell phones/devices, televisions, and radios. This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts.

This test will ensure that these systems are able to communicate with the public about emergencies; however, it may pose a risk for individuals who have hidden devices due to abusive and/or other situations where their safety is at risk. The only way to silence the alert is to turn the device off during the alert period.
