Janet Marie Armstrong, 76, of Hedrick, died at 2:48 p.m. October 19, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born September 24, 1947 in Fort Dodge to Arthur and Dorothy Box Wilson. Janet married Howard Armstrong on March 20, 2016.
A 1965 graduate of St. Edmonds Catholic High School in Fort Dodge, Janet earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Buena Vista University. She was a social abuse counselor for 3 years in the Minnesota prison system and for more than 25 years was a direct care staff member for a Fort Dodge group home.
She was a member of Last Days Ministries. Janet was a published poet having written “Life is Like a Toaster.” She loved spending time with her grandchildren, enjoyed travelling and never met a stranger. She especially enjoyed talking with people about the Lord.
Surviving is her husband, Howard; her son Tony (Diane) Moore of Fort Dodge; 5 grandchildren, David, Gavin and Emma Moore, Erik and Alexi Atteberry; 2 great-grandchildren, Hudsyn and Madden; siblings, Mary Ellen Stuhrenberg of Fort Dodge, Charla (John) Adams of Lancaster, CA, Donald (Sue) Wilson of Fort Dodge, Betty Cook of Fort Dodge, Katherine (Paul) Watson of Omaha, NE, Bill (Alana) Wilson of Lancaster, CA and Pat Mefford of Pocahontas, IA; sister-in-law, Charlene Wilson of San Antonio, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Christopher Lee Moore; brothers, James, Arthur Charles and Richard Wilson; brothers-in-law, Jim Mefford, Vince Stuhrenberg and Ted Cook; and sister-in-law, Mary Wilson.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 25th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Shepherd officiating.
