Zetta Marie VanNess, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 11:25 a.m. September 4, 2023 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa.
She was born January 6, 1946 in Corvallis, OR to Lloyd and Myrtle Marie Stodgill Griner. Zetta married Charles VanNess on December 11, 1964 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1981.
Zetta moved to Ottumwa at the age of 10. She worked for 30 years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in the culinary department, retiring in 2000.
She liked owls, fishing, and mushroom hunting.
Surviving are her children, Jerry (Karla) VanNess and Donna Smith both of Ottumwa; sisters, Julia (Robert) O’Laughlin of Ottumwa and Shirley (Rick) Grimes of California.
She was preceded in death by sons, Dwayne VanNess and Tim VanNess; and siblings, Peter Russell Griner, Elliott Joseph Griner, Ruby Calvert, Virginia Eden and Fred Steinaway.
Her body has been cremated.
Graveside service and inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 7th at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
