Larry Michael Billings, age 72, of Carlisle, IA passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the UnityPoint Hospice Taylor House. He was born on July 18, 1951 to Samuel and Mary Ellen “Nellie” (Carr) Billings.
Larry graduated from Albia High School. He was drafted in the United States Army during Vietnam. He married Debbie McAninch in 1996. He retired from Norwalk Ready Mixed in 2021.
Larry was small in stature, but when he walked into a room he was instantly noticed with his big smile and quick wit. If we were quiet or somber, he would have us all belly laughing before long. Larry Michael could socialize with all ages of people. He had a beloved dog named Jimmy for sixteen years. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes football, especially with his daughter Shelly. He enjoyed playing cards at family gatherings, especially Euchre and going to Fiss’ in Carlisle for ice cream.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Todd) Krauth; son, Marc (Shalee) Hobbs; siblings, Jim Billings, Donna (Larry) Scieszinski, Diane (Dr. Kenneth) Anderson; one grandson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Billings; parents, Samuel and Mary Ellen “Nellie” Billings; brother, John Billings; sisters, Peggy Billings, and Marilyn Stephens; sisters-in-law, Kay Billings & Alice Billings, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Stephens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Father Timothy Armbruster C.PP.S. officiating. Inurnment will follow the luncheon in the Carlisle City Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia, opening to the public at 3:00 p.m., with family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home with Deacon Ed Kamerick officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Carlisle or the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.
