An Ottumwa man faces numerous charges after allegedly stealing a gun and firing at a moving vehicle earlier this year.

19-year-old Vidal Martinez has been charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault while participating in a felony, two counts of going armed with intent, reckless use of a firearm, use of a dangerous weapon in commission of a crime, and person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons.

On May 7 at the Ferry Street Extension in Ottumwa, court records say Martinez stole a firearm and then used the stolen gun to shoot multiple times at the family members of the rightful owner of the firearm.

Martinez allegedly fired at a moving vehicle with two occupants. Nearby businesses were damaged as a result.

A warrant for Martinez’s arrest was issued on August 4 and he was arrested on August 7. He is currently in the Wapello County Jail where he is being held without bond.
