An Ottumwa man accused of murdering his wife two years ago saw his trial rescheduled.
The trial of 63-year-old Gregory Showalter Sr. scheduled for August 15 has been moved to September 12.
Showalter faces charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, willful injury, and domestic abuse.
Authorities say Showalter shot and killed Helen Showalter on July 31, 2021. Helen was reported missing and on the following day, her body was found near the Des Moines River in rural Wapello County.
A conviction for first-degree murder carries a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
