More details have emerged from last week’s officer-related shooting in Bloomfield.
The Bloomfield Police Department initially reported on July 26 an officer shot an individual during a traffic stop.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Officer Jared Wittmaack, a three-year veteran of the police department, stopped an erratic driver on the 400 block of East Arkansas Avenue. While Wittmaack was talking with the driver, a 17-year-old male approached the traffic stop from a nearby home.
A verbal and physical confrontation occurred between the officer and the male which concluded with Wittmaack firing his duty weapon and striking the 17-year-old.
The male was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines and is expected to make a full recovery.
Wittmaack was treated at a local hospital and released. He remains on critical leave.
The DCI says the investigation is ongoing. A complete report will be filed with the Davis County Attorney for review.
