Unionville Man Dies in Rollover Crash

A single-car accident claimed the life of a Unionville man on Tuesday, according to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says it received a call of an accident near the intersection of South Street and Oak Street in Unionville at 11:48 AM.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and discovered a white 2002 Ford Explorer on its side. The preliminary investigation indicated the Explorer was traveling northbound on South Street. For an unknown reason, authorities say the driver, 65-year-old Craig Bankson, lost control of the vehicle which left the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, and rolled into a ditch and back onto the roadway.

Bankson was ejected from the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office says no indication was found that Bankson was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation.
