Terry Lane Patton, 79, of Fairfield, IA passed away on June 14, 2023, at the Jefferson County Health Care Center with his family by his side. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with Pastor Jason Christensen officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Terry’s honor may be directed to the Iowa Department of Veteran’s Affairs and may be mailed to 2299 Mint Blvd., Fairfield, IA 52556. Terry Lane Patton was born on April 16, 1944, in Missouri Valley, IA to Clarence and Florence Taylor Patton. Terry was a proud graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, IA. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served as a Military Police Officer Sergeant E-5 during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Terry returned to Iowa and began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement with the City of Fairfield.
Throughout his career, Terry worked at several jobs in Fairfield, including Sut Hill Pontiac, Buick & GMC, Shy Vending Company, and Fesler Auto Mall. However, most of his work career was spent in law enforcement with the City of Fairfield, where he retired in May of 1999 as a Police Sergeant. Terry’s dedication to his community and his unwavering commitment to public service made him a respected
and admired figure in Fairfield.
Terry was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his son, Matt (Nicole) Patton of Story City, IA; daughter, Brandee (Joe) Holden of Fairfield, IA; a sister, Patty (Harold) Luzadder of Fairfield; sisters-in-law, Kay Patton of Council Bluffs, IA, and Stephanie Patton of Fairfield, IA; and grandchildren, Hannah Patton, Alex Holden, Rachel Patton, Blake Holden, and Luke Patton. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clarke, Larry, and Bobby.
In his spare time, Terry enjoyed bowling, cheering for his beloved Chicago Cubs, and detailing cars. He was a huge Elvis fan and used to have an extensive Elvis collection. Terry’s kind and generous nature made him a friend to many, and his courage and strength were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Terry’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life. His legacy of service, love, and compassion will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
