Eleanor M. Forsyth, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born July 29, 1930, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Walter “Pete” and Agnes Schaechter Mack. She graduated from Viola High School in Illinois with the class of 1948. Following graduation she attended St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rock Island, Illinois. She completed her Registered Nurse training there in 1951. On December 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to Vernon “Tom” Forsyth in Aledo, Illinois. They shared 47 years of marriage together until Tom passed away in September of 2010. Eleanor worked as a registered nurse at several different locations, including Tower Park, Pleasant Park and finally, Mahaska Manor until retiring in 1995. After retirement, she stayed home to take care of Tom but also worked doing some in-home care and helped at nursing facilities when needed. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Jennifer) Forsyth of San Antonio, Texas, Mark Forsyth of Los Angeles, California, and John Forsyth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jonathon, Jacqueline, Kay Lynn and David; a sister-in-law, Janet Mack of Blue Grass, Iowa as well as many nieces and nephews. Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Forsyth; her parents and two brothers, Dennis (Delores) Mack, and Richard “Tony” Mack.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa, with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the Bates Funeral Chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the family present at the funeral chapel from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa.
