Larry Gene Eldridge, 85, of Sigourney, IA passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the Manor House in Sigourney, IA.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Sigourney Christian Church with Pastor Dino Weingarten and Phil Buschmann officiating.  Cremation will take place following the service.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Sigourney Christian Church and will last until the time of service.  Memorial contributions in Larry’s honor may be directed to the Sigourney Christian Church, Heartland Humane Society, or to Essence of Life Hospice.  Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Larry Gene Eldridge was born on March 29, 1937, in Sigourney, IA to Paul and W. Viola Rice Eldridge. He attended high school in Sigourney where he graduated with the class of 1955. Larry began his career with the United States Postal Service while still in high school which was the beginning of a career that lasted almost 39 years. In June of 1959 Larry joined the United States Army and remained active or in the reserve until 1967. During this time, he met the love of his life, Carole Yoder. They were married in Carole’s family home by her father on March 31, 1967. This was the first step in a journey together that lasted over 53 years. Larry became a loving father to Carole’s son Jeff. Together, Larry and Carole restored their original home that was built in 1871. Upon Larry’s retirement he remained very active in the community that he called home. He was a charter member of the Sigourney Jaycees and served as a board member for the Sigourney Senior Center. Larry worked at the Sigourney Country Club as the Course Superintendent for seven years and managed the inside club for four years. He and Carole could often be seen planting flowers and caring for whatever was needed. Larry was the founding member of the Sigourney Kids Against Hunger which raised money and packaged meals at local churches and schools, which were then distributed to those in need. Larry was an active member of the Sigourney Christian Church where he served on several boards. Larry loved the town of Sigourney and the friends that he made throughout the many years. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carole (d. 2021); a son, Jeff; two sisters, Dorothy Jean (Mario) Daffara, Virginia (Leo) Hammes; four brothers, Charles “Bud” Eldridge, Robert “Buck” (Ruth) Eldrige, Jerry Eldridge, and James Eldridge, and a brother-in-law, Juan Adam.

Left to share his story are his sisters, Donna Adam, Barb (Rex) Appleget, and Linda (Dyle) Van Fleet, many nieces and nephews, as well as his good friends, Jill Moore, Teresa Graham, and LaVonne Bloem.
