Devin Michael Caraccio, age 27, of Centerville, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Devin was born on August 5, 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Philip Pickering and Kimberly Sue Tu.  He graduated Valley High School in Des Moines.   After high school, Devin attended Indian Hills Community College and received his Associate of Science in Nursing.  He then attended William Penn University, obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Devin furthered his education further at Graceland University, where he earned his Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  He was united in marriage to Lexi Jo Ranes on December 20, 2020, and to this union, one child was born, Luca, and one son on the way, Gianni.

Devin entered into the United States Army in September 2012.  He became a Healthcare Specialist/Combat Medic until 2019, where he was then appointed as Commissioned Officer-Register Nurse.  Devin was currently still active in the Iowa Army National Guard.

Devin began working at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in 2016 as the Intensive/Critical Care Charge Nurse and then as the Emergency Department Charge Nurse.  Most recently, he was the Internal Medicine Hospitalist for Ottumwa Regional Health Center.  Devin thoroughly enjoyed working with his family/co-workers at Ottumwa Regional Hospital.  In February 2022, Devin accepted a position at Chariton Valley Medical Center in Centerville as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  He worked there when he wasn’t working in Ottumwa.  He was proud to be Devin Caraccio, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C.

Devin had a love for cars, motorcycles, and long-range shooting. Most importantly, he cherished every moment he spent with his family, especially his son Luca, and was very excited to welcome his son Gianni to the world.

Left to honor Devin’s memory are his wife, Lexi Caraccio of Centerville; his son, Luca Caraccio and his son on the way, Gianni; his mother, Kim (Huy) Tu of West Des Moines; his father, Philip (Carla) Pickering of Altoona; his in-laws, Rick Ranes and Stacie Slayton; his grandparents, Vickie Caraccio of Centerville, Deb Pickering of Runnells, Ngan Luo of West Des Moines, and Pauline Clark of West Des Moines; his brothers, Chris Tu and Kyle Tu, both of West Des Moines; his sister, Kaylea Pickering of West Des Moines; his uncle, Antonio (Moriah) Caraccio of Centerville and their children; his aunt, Jamie (Michael) Jolley of Manchester, Iowa and their children; a longtime friend, Alex Korthuis; as well as several cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.

Devin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Caraccio; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and great grandparents.

Per Devin’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville.  Military Rites will follow the service at the funeral home. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5-8PM.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made out to Luca and Gianni Caraccio, to go towards their education, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: Caraccio family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
