Jean Mary Sertterh, 97, of Ottumwa, died at 4 p.m. August 21, 2022 at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
She was born June 12, 1925 in Flaunden, Hertfordshire, England to Frederick and Georgina Burgin Wallington. Jean married George Michael Sertterh on May 11, 1946 in Boxmoore, Hertfordshire England and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1981.
Jean came to Ottumwa in 1946 where she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. She enjoyed knitting, mostly baby buntings for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in her home and loved talking about England during her childhood times. Jean looked forward to her Sunday drives with George. She was an avid sports fan, always watching the Cubs and Bears.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Mary) Sertterh of Albia and David (Diana) Sertterh of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Michelle (Chris), Mark (Jennie), Matt (Jackie), Chris (Kara) and Brad (Kristen); eight great-grandchildren, Joseph, Allison, Jaryn, Riley, Mason, Hunter, Autumn and Madalyn; step-grandchildren, Wes Hamstreet and Ken Hamstreet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alice Wallington-Badrick and Gladys Wallington-Batchelor; and three brothers, William Wallington, Frederick Wallington and Alfred Wallington.
Visitation with the family greeting friends will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25th at Reece Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25th at St. Mary of the Visitation. For those unable to attend the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
