Connie Orona, 72, of Carlisle, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 11:26 a.m. August 28, 2022 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
She was born November 29, 1949 in Ottumwa to Thomas and Lydia Swope Songer. Connie married Daniel B. Orona on July 13, 1968.
A 1968 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Connie lived 8 years in Fairfield, 7 years in Attica and has been a resident of Carlisle since 1984. She had worked briefly in the food pantry in Des Moines through the Salvation Army.
Connie had been a member of Order of Eastern Star Rose Chapter #552.
Her family was everything to her and she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving is her husband, Dan; her children, Dan (Dawn) Orona of Des Moines and Angela Orona of Indianola; 2 granddaughters, Rachael Orona and Vanessa Hernandez; 3 siblings, Mert “Marita” Weilbrenner, Cathy (Jerry) Weilbrenner and Mike Songer all of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 siblings, Tom “Butch” Songer, Don Songer, Bob Breckenridge and Joeline Denniston.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 1st, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor George King officiating. For those unable to attend the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
