Business Builder Academy Seeks to Help New Business Owners

Main Street Ottumwa announced a new program that aims to teach business basics to new business owners and entrepreneurs.

The Business Builder Academy is an eight-session course that will teach the process of building a business plan. With the help of local experts, they will finish the class with an action plan to get their business started and growing.

The experts include Kelly Prickett from the Small Business Development Center, Dusty Ware from Warehouse BBQ and Floor to Ceiling, Teri Messerschmitt from South Ottumwa Savings Bank, Paul Zingg from Denefe, Gardner and Zingg, P.C., Zach Simonson from the City of Ottumwa, Lindsey Newland with The Newland Company, Brad Barnes from Bradley Barnes, CPA, and Tom Shafer from Farmers Insurance.

Every person who attends will present their business plan to a panel of judges. Each student who attends every class will compete to win a $3,000 business expenses grant paired with a $1,500 branding package from a local designer.

The deadline to sign up is September 14th.
