Identities Revealed in Lovilia Murder-Suicide

The victim and perpetrator in the Lovilia homicide over the weekend were revealed by the authorities on Wednesday.

Police in Ankeny were told there had been a possible murder in Lovilia and the body of 33-year-old Betty Werner (pictured) was discovered in rural Monroe County on Sunday, July 3rd.

Betty’s husband, 41-year-old Nathan Werner, was identified by law enforcement as the sole person responsible for his wife’s death. Nathan was found armed and hiding out at his residence in Lovilia.

A standoff ensued and over several hours, negotiators attempted to persuade Nathan to leave his residence. Nathan refused and ended negotiations. Nathan took his own life before law enforcement entered the home.

An autopsy confirmed Betty Werner died from several gunshot wounds. The manner of death was classified as a homicide.

Nathan Werner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was classified as a suicide.
