Warrior baseball splits games as the Albia Tournament


The Van Buren County Warrior baseball team split their games at the Albia Tournament; defeating the Central Decatur Cardinals 4-3 and falling to the Moravia Mohawks 11-5

In game one the Warriors knocked off the Cardinals 4-3. The Warriors would strike first in the opening inning when Bailey Roen drove in Lucas Fett to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead after. Both teams would go scoreless in the second inning, highlighted by Jackson Manning striking out Cardinals. The Warriors would tack on two more runs in the third highlighted by a Taylor Sprouse RBI to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead after 3. After two scoreless innings the Warriors took a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning. The sixth is where the Cardinals switched the momentum. The Cardinals would tack on three runs to tie the game at 3. During the inning the Cardinal used four hits and a hit by pitch, highlighted by Jayden Broich’s 2 RBI single. The Warriors would walk-off the game when Bailey Roen put the ball in play and the Cardinals threw the ball allowing Lucas Fett to score to win 4-3

In game two the Mohawks used a 6 run fifth to defeat the Warriors 11-5. In the first Sprouse would drive in Manning after Manning tripled in the first frame. The Mohawks would see the first four batters score in the bottom of the first. The Mohawks tallied the four runs to lead 4-1 after on inning. The Mohawks tallied 5 hits and 1 walk in the inning. The Warriors and Mohawks would both tally one run in the second to move the score to 5-2 Mohawks after two. The teams would stay scoreless in the third and the fourth, to keep the Mohawks in the lead 5-2 going to the fifth. The Mohawks broke open the game open with six runs to extend the lead to 11-2. The Mohawks used 3 hits, 3 walks and two Warriors errors. The Warriors would tally three runs in the top of the seventh but would fall short 11-5
