An Ottumwa man is facing several charges related to a disturbance last Friday on the city’s south side.

According to court documents, at around 1:35 p.m. on April 29, Ottumwa Police and Wapello County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of an armed disturbance on Glenwood Avenue. According to the incident report, 36 year old Marcos Antonio Curiel-Navarro was in his shed on his property and fired a gun multiple times through the shed door, which also caused damage to a neighbor’s property. After taking Curiel-Navarro into custody, an investigation showed him to be in possession of a .40 caliber Springfield pistol and a 9mm SCCY pistol. As Curiel-Navarro is a convicted felon (most recent felony conviction 7/11/2017) he is prohibited from owning firearms.

Curiel-Navarro has been charged with 2 counts of Felon In Possession Of A Firearm (a Class D Felony), Reckless Use Of A Firearm Resulting In Property Damage (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and Use Of A Dangerous Weapon In Commission Of A Crime (Aggravated Misdemeanor). He is currently in the Wapello County Jail on a $14,000 bond.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
