An Ottumwa man is facing an attempted murder charge following a shooting on Tuesday morning.
According to a press release, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at around 8:35 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department received a report that an individual had been shot in the 500 Block of E. Main Street. Police arrived and found a male victim, identified as 28 year old Tyler Vandivier, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Vandivier was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for medical care.
Police established a perimeter around 602 E. Main Street, while additional officers applied for a search warrant for apartment #3 located at this address. During this time, officers came into contact with the suspect, 34 year old Jaime Aguilar. At approximately 9:46 a.m., Aguilar was placed under arrest and transported to the Wapello County Jail. At approximately 10:28 a.m., officers entered the residence and executed a search of Aguilar’s residence, recovering potential evidence.
Aguilar has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder (a Class B Felony), and is being held in the Wapello County Jail without bond.
