Marian Louise Helmick, 89, of Bloomfield, died at 2:40 p.m. November 17, 2019 at the Bloomfield Care Center surrounded by her family.
She was born February 9, 1930 in Wapello County to Edgar and Elsie Wagner Overturf. Marian married Leland Garrison in September of 1947 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1960. She married Ralph Helmick on June 4, 1961 and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1995.
A resident of Davis County most of her life, Marian was a housewife and helped her husband on the farm. After selling their farm and moving to Bloomfield, she worked at True Value and the Butcher Block.
Marian had attended the Zion Community Church of God and later attended Drakesville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Merry Mixers Club.
Marian enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting and sharing from her garden.
Surviving are her children, Dean (Jane) Garrison of Ottumwa and Cathy Henderson (Earl Werts), of Bloomfield; step-daughters, Karen (Boyd) Brittain and Nancy Kirkman both of Blakesburg; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (Marilyn) Overturf of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by step-daughter, Ann Daugherty; step-son-in-law, Dick Kirkman and sister-in-law, Mabel Overturf.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be in the Blakesburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be open after 1 p.m. Tuesday. The family will be present one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society Hospice.
