A Fairfield woman is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after she was arrested Sunday morning for blocking a downtown intersection and resisting officers during her arrest.

Christina Ring, 52, was charged with Disorderly Conduct – Obstruct Streets/Sidewalk/Highway, a serious misdemeanor, as well as Interference with Official Acts and Public Intoxication, both simple misdemeanors.

Officers received multiple 911 calls at approximately 11:37 a.m. on Sunday, October 18th, reporting a woman blocking the roadway at the intersection of Broadway and Main Street in Fairfield.

Upon arrival, officers observed Ring placing a chair and a red bucket in the road. When asked what she was doing, Ring said she was expressing her freedom. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy also responded to the scene and explained to Ring that she was not permitted to obstruct the roadway, which she refused to accept, according to court documents.

Fairfield Police Chief Joel Smith then arrived on scene. Chief Smith explained to Ring that she was welcome to continue her activities on the sidewalk but could not remain in the street. Ring refused that explanation as well. Chief Smith then informed Ring she was under arrest and attempted to place her in handcuffs. At that point, officers detected the odor of alcohol and observed a container of Fireball whiskey near Ring’s feet. Ring kept her hands clenched behind her back before officers were able to apply the handcuffs.

According to court documents, during the escort to a patrol vehicle, Ring planted her feet, pulled backward and refused to walk. At the vehicle, she was instructed to get into the rear seat, refused, and used the vehicle’s side step to push herself backward before officers assisted her inside.

Ring was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where she is being held on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. Upon arrival, Chief Smith offered her a preliminary breath test, which she declined. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 28th.
