Iowa Set for Above-Normal Temperatures This Week

After a chilly start to the weekend that brought the first freeze of the season to many parts of Iowa, warmer temperatures are expected to return across the state this week.

According to the Climate Prediction Center’s latest 6–10 day temperature outlook, Iowa has a 70% to 80% probability of experiencing above-normal temperatures from October 23 through October 27.

Temperatures are expected to gradually climb throughout the week, with afternoon highs reaching the 60s on Sunday and Monday before rising into the 70s across much of Iowa by Wednesday. Unseasonably warm conditions could continue through Thursday and Friday, with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above normal in some areas.

Along with the warmer weather, much of the state is expected to experience an extended stretch of dry conditions, with little to no precipitation anticipated through much of the workweek.

However, the weather pattern could become more active next weekend, bringing renewed chances for rain and potentially breezy conditions.

Forecasters note that the 70% to 80% probability does not represent the chance of reaching a specific temperature. Instead, it reflects the likelihood that average temperatures during the October 23–27 period will be higher than the historical normal.

For now, Iowans can look forward to a stretch of mild fall weather before November arrives. Residents should continue checking local forecasts for updates as temperatures rise and the potential for changing weather conditions returns next weekend.
