The Pella City Council will revisit a proposed utility rate increase during a work session Tuesday as city officials prepare for formal consideration later this year.
The proposal calls for a 10% rate increase to help cover rising operating costs and fund major infrastructure improvements. Projects identified by city administration include construction of a third Jordan Well and wastewater facility upgrades required by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The proposal was initially discussed during the fiscal year 2027 budget process. Tuesday’s discussion will give council members another opportunity to review the potential increase, but no vote is scheduled for the work session.
If the proposal moves forward, the ordinance’s first reading is expected in November. The new rates would take effect January 1, 2027, pending council approval.
The Pella City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pella Public Safety Complex.
