A grain dryer fire west of Pleasant Plain drew a mutual aid response from multiple fire departments on Thursday, October 8th and required crews to return to the scene the following night when the fire reignited, according to statements from the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department and the Fairfield Fire Department.

The Brighton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the grain dryer fire Thursday morning and called on Fairfield Fire and Richland Fire for assistance. Fairfield responded with its aerial truck and a water tanker. According to Fairfield Fire Department member Jason Crandall, the aerial apparatus was used to provide an elevated platform to access the top of the dryer, while the tanker worked in conjunction with three other tankers to shuttle water to the scene. Fairfield crews were on scene for approximately four hours.

Brighton Fire noted that Fairfield’s aerial truck was essential to safely working the fire. “Fairfield’s aerial truck was a necessity to safely work on this fire,” the department said in a social media post.

Brighton Fire also thanked Brighton Quick Response Service, Jefferson County Ambulance, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for their presence at the scene.

The response was not over after Thursday. At approximately 2:45 a.m. Friday, October 9th, the dryer reignited and Fairfield Fire returned to the scene for another four hours.
