Police say two men are in custody after a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Centerville.

Harley Pierce of Centerville, 32, was charged with two counts of attempted murder (Class B felony), willful injury – causing serious injury (Class C felony), and possession of a firearm by a felon (Class D felony).

Eric Teater of Moulton, 45, was charged with accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The Centerville Police Department says officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 800 block of West Maple Street at 1:04 AM. After arriving at the scene, police encountered a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital then transferred to a hospital in Des Moines.

After initiating an investigation that included talking with witnesses, authorities say Pierce and Teater were arrested. Pierce allegedly attempted to run over a different male subject with a vehicle and Teater is accused of having knowledge of the shooting and attempting to help Pierce flee the scene.

Pierce and Teater are currently being held in the Appanoose County Jail.
