An Ottumwa man was charged with a felony after allegedly stealing a dirt bike last month.
Tanner Whitmore, 26, faces a charge of second-degree theft, a Class D felony.
On August 27th, court records say Whitmore stole a child’s dirt bike from a residence on the 400 block of South Lillian Street in Ottumwa. According to the criminal complaint, Whitmore was later seen on security footage riding the dirt bike, valued at approximately $2,000.
Authorities say Whitmore was called in as a suspicious person and was in possession of the stolen bike.
A warrant for Whitmore’s arrest was issued on September 17th and he was taken into custody the following day.
Whitmore is currently in the Wapello County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 29th.
