Maureen Groet, age 59, of Pella, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Pella Regional Hospital. She was born on April 9, 1967, at the Mahaska Hospital, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Sereg) Groet. She attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1985. She then furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College earning her Nursing Degree.
Maureen worked as a nurse at the Mahaska Hospital for 25 years until her health declined and she was no longer able to work. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, crocheting and cross stitching. Maureen loved anything Disney and enjoyed taking several Disney cruises in her lifetime. She was an animal lover and especially loved her dogs.
She is survived by her mother, Jane Groet of Newton; her siblings, David Groet of Altoona and Dawn (James) Carlock of Newton; her nieces and nephews, Mackenzie Groet, Caitlin (Ben) Hilmer, Rachel Groet, Alexis (Dallas) Laney, Ashley Hoover and Tyler Hoover. She is also survived by her special friends, Sandy Cranston and Sue Larvick.
Maureen was preceded in death by her father, Donald Groet; her birth mother, Dorothy Groet and her grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa following services. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held an hour prior to services beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Maureen’s family present to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
