Christine “Chris” Elaine Amos, age 68, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.
Chris was born on January 10, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ottumwa, IA, to Albert and Mary Catherine (Stuchel) Smith. She grew up in Albia, graduating from Albia High School with the Class of 1976. In 1977, she was united in marriage to Tim Selby and to this union, 2 children, Andrea and Tyler, were born. Chris and Tim later divorced. On September 6, 1985, she married Mike Amos and they were blessed with a daughter, Tiana. Mike preceded her in death on December 10, 2000.
Chris was a supervisor at Ragtime Industries for many years. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding mules and going to rodeos, as well as riding motorcycles. In more recent years, she has enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing Bingo. Her true joy in life was spending time with her kids and grandkids and attending their activities and events.
Chris is survived by her longtime companion, Randy Davis; 3 children, Andrea (Steven Thomas) Selby, Tyler (Abby) Selby, and Tiana Amos; 4 grandchildren, Meghan (Gatlin), Gunner, Nora, and Evelyn; her siblings, Stanley (Bernie) Smith, Cindy Sinnott, Cathy (Craig) Brandt, Carol (Terry) Reed, Mark (Gail) Smith, Barbara (Stanley) Smith, and Danny (Laura) Smith; her father-in-law, Jim Amos; and siblings-in-law, Dave Amos, Lee (Vicki) Amos, Deb (Kenny) Hannan, and Liz (Dave) Maddison. Chris is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Amos; her parents, Albert and Mary Smith; 2 brothers, Anthony in infancy and Stephen; her mother-in-law, Betty Amos; brother-in-law, Tom Sinnott; and sisters-in-law, Marina Amos and Chris Smith.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Chris’s family present to greet family and friends. Visitation will open with a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. led by St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Isaac Essel and Father Bernie Weir concelebrant. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
An open memorial has been established to the family to be determined at a later date.
