An Ottumwa man is facing a domestic abuse charge after police responded to a reported disturbance earlier this week.
According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of East Williams Street at approximately 7:59 p.m. following a report of a domestic disturbance.
Court documents allege that a witness observed 40-year-old Colt Ball involved in a verbal argument with a woman that escalated into a physical altercation. The witness reportedly told investigators they saw Ball punch the woman in the face before pinning her against the door of his pickup truck while the vehicle was stopped at an intersection.
According to the criminal complaint, Ball later admitted to law enforcement that he punched the victim in the face. Court records indicate the two are in a relationship and live together.
Ball was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond.
A no-contact order was issued on July 8. Ball is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – Second Offense, a serious misdemeanor. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Wapello County District Court.
