A Knoxville woman is facing a domestic abuse assault charge following an incident reported on June 14.
According to court records, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Marion Street in Knoxville at approximately 7:41 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance.
Authorities allege that 18-year-old Kyra Taft became involved in a verbal argument with her mother that escalated into a physical altercation. Court documents state the victim was seated while Taft stood over her in an aggressive manner. Investigators say Taft had an opportunity to leave or disengage from the argument, but the situation continued to escalate.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim slapped Taft while remaining seated. Taft allegedly responded by striking the victim in the face. A third party reportedly intervened and pushed Taft from the room in an attempt to separate those involved.
Court records further allege that Taft forced her way back through a door and continued to engage in the confrontation.
Taft was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. She was later released after posting a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
A no-contact order was served on June 15. A pretrial conference in the case is scheduled for June 22.
