Rolland Edward “Rocky” McSparen, 71, of Drakesville, Iowa passed away on May 30, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on March 16, 1955, in Newton, Iowa to Charles Fredrick and Mary Alice Hewitt McSparen. He graduated from Eddyville High School in 1973. On October 12, 1974, he married Debra Smith in Bunch, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born: Tanya and Bobbi.
Rocky worked for Maytag in Newton for many years before his retirement. He was also active in breeding and raising horses with Amos Yoder. His friendship with the Amish Community led him to be known as the “Candy Man” because he always had candy and suckers for the Amish children. Rocky enjoyed many outdoor activities but especially loved the time he spent hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He was an avid NASCAR fan making sure to tune in to every televised race he could. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; two daughters, Tanya (Cary) Huffman of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Bobbi (Troy) Kerby of Moulton, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kody McSparen, Shianne Huffman, Megan Huffman, Taylor Kerby, Emilee Kerby, Payge Kerby; six great-grandchildren; brother, Alan (Kim) McSparen of Unionville, Iowa; three sisters, Tonya (Craig) Steel of Eddyville, Trisha (Mark McDougall) Garman of Oskaloosa, Lisa Sterling of Eddyville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles “Chuck” McSparen; and a sister, Mary Dawn Malone.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Drakesville Cemetery with Pastor Randy Sweeney officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to his family.
