Firefighters in Bettendorf responded to a house fire Monday afternoon in the 1400 block of 21st Street.
According to a media release, crews were dispatched to the reported structure fire at approximately 12:45 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames burning on the front exterior of the home, along with a shed on the same side of the property fully engulfed in fire.
Officials said one person was inside the home when the fire started and was able to safely escape while also getting the family dog out of the house.
One firefighter was transported to a hospital as a precaution after experiencing possible heat exhaustion. Fire officials said the firefighter is expected to be okay.
The homeowners told officials they believe the fire may have started in the shed before spreading to the house.
Everyone inside the home escaped safely, though crews continued searching for a cat that was still unaccounted for.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
