Robert Edward “Bob” Jones, 80, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on May 2, 2026 at his home. He was born on July 20, 1945 in Kirksville, Missouri to Robert J. and Crystal Lanham Jones. On July 20, 1968, he married Cheryll Ann McLane in Garnavillo, Iowa. The couple lived in the Cedar Rapids area for several years before moving to Davis County in 1976 where they raised two children, Travis and Sarah, on their family farm.
While living in Cedar Rapids, Bob worked for Harnischfeger as a welder and Penick and Ford as a production worker. After moving to Bloomfield, Bob owned and operated Jones Welding Service and was a state certified bridge welder. He worked on many bridges throughout Iowa. Later he owned and operated Circle J Sheep Equipment until his retirement. Bob also farmed and raised sheep for many years. He loved being on his farm and tooling around in his Polaris Ranger. He took many trips to car shows to show off his 1965 Plymouth Satellite which he was so proud of that he carried a picture of it with him wherever he went. The Satellite won many awards and trophies over the years. He was an avid fan of Mopar and the Hemi engine. He was most proud of his family – at heart, Bob was a family man and loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He will be forever in their hearts and minds.
Bob served in the US Army Reserves for many years and was honored to do so.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryll; son, Travis (Angela) Jones of Bloomfield; daughter, Sarah (Matt) Kearney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandsons, Bradley (Shelby) Jones, Justen (Reagan Harris) Jones, Logan Kearney; and great-grandson, Jaxton Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and James Jones; and sister, Patty Downing.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Burial will be at the Washington Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library and the McGowan Recreation and Wildlife Area to be used for the walking trail.
