An assault investigation in Ottumwa has led to criminal charges after authorities say a victim was allegedly attacked despite an active no-contact order being in place at the time of the incident.
On April 14 at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Tuttle Street in reference to an assault.
According to a criminal complaint, a 36-year-old Michelle Brown allegedly assaulted the victim by punching him multiple times in the face and upper body.
Court documents indicate that Brown and the victim were subject to a valid no-contact order at the time of the incident.
Brown is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23.
Brown is charged with Assault while a protective order is in effect, a Class D felony, as well as Violation of a No Contact/Protective Order, a simple misdemeanor.
