The president of the American Farm Bureau Federation says he’s concerned about the long-term economic outlook for farmers and ranchers.

AFBF’s Zippy Duvall says, “Right now, there’s a heavy cloud hanging over rural America. We’re in a generational storm that is brewing.”

Speaking during a National Ag Day event in Washington on Tuesday, Duvall said the ag industry is tackling a “terrible imbalance.”

“Those things we buy are going up – fertilizer, equipment, everything we have to purchase to make sure we produce that product for your family to consume. But the things we’re selling you, those prices are going down continuously.”

Duvall says farmers are facing a fifth consecutive year of declining incomes.
