Peggy Marie Farver (Strovers), 88, of Newton, Iowa, passed away on March 2, 2026, at Comfort House in Pella, Iowa.
Peggy was born on September 10, 1937, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Lester R. Strovers and Alice Marie Allen. She grew up in Iowa, graduated from high school, and began a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple joys she loved.
Peggy and her husband, Lyle, spent many years driving semi together-and oh, the stories they could tell. After Lyle’s passing, Peggy worked for many years at Casey’s, where she became well known as a dedicated pizza maker and valued coworker. She retired in 2020 after 17 years of service. Throughout her life she lived in several places including Monroe, Iowa; Knoxville, Iowa; Leadville, Colorado; and Newton, Iowa.
Peggy enjoyed spending time outdoors and with her family. Her favorite activities included gardening, camping, riding her horse, and especially spending time with her grandson. In her younger years, she also loved roller skating. Peggy cherished time with her “girls”-Betty, Janice, Deb, and Sandy-especially when they were out searching for treasures at garage sales.
Peggy was known for being a little spicy and spunky, and she never met a stranger. She also had a deep love for dogs, most recently her beloved companion, Ceaser.
Peggy is survived by her siblings: Mary Fairleigh of Torrance, California; Norma Jean Clubb of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Betty Steenhoek of Newton, Iowa; Beverly Strovers of Oroville, California; Kenneth Strovers of Belle Plaine, Iowa; and David (Karen) Strovers of Apache Junction, Arizona. She is also survived by her grandson, Reed Allen Shepard; sisters-in-law Virginia Strovers and Ilona Strovers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Lester Jr. (Doris), Dale (Dottie), James, Wayne, and Denny (Cathy); her sisters Janice and Dorothy Ann; her husband, Lyle Huron Farver; her son, Rex Allen Shepard; and brothers-in-law Richard Fairleigh and Bill Steenhoek.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Monroe, Iowa. Burial will follow at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorials may be directed to Comfort House in Pella, whose care and compassion meant so much in her final days.
Peggy will be remembered for her love of family, her independent spirit, and the simple pleasures she cherished throughout her life.
