A domestic disturbance at a local hotel led to the arrest of an individual following an alleged assault.
On February 18th at approximately 11:41 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of E. Baker Street regarding a domestic disturbance.
According to court documents, officers spoke with the victim upon arrival. The victim reported that she and Steven Piccinino, 60, of Saint Ann, Missouri, had been drinking at local bars near the town square. After leaving the bars, the two entered Piccinino’s vehicle to return to their hotel for the night. While in the vehicle, Piccinino allegedly punched the victim multiple times in the arm. The victim stated that the assault occurred because she “was annoying and talked too much.” Officers observed visible, raised bruising on the victim’s upper left arm.
The victim and Piccinino have been in a relationship for four years and currently reside together, according to law enforcement.
When officers attempted to interview Piccinino, he refused to open the door and barricaded himself inside the hotel room. Officers announced their presence and reason for the investigation before breaching the door. After a brief altercation, Piccinino was taken into custody. While being escorted by deputies, Piccinino allegedly kicked an officer in the right leg near the groin.
Piccinino was transported to the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility, where he is currently being held on a $9,000 cash/surety bond. A no-contact order was issued on February 19th.
An initial appearance hearing is scheduled for February 27th. Piccinino faces the following charges:
- Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations – Bodily Injury (Class D felony)
- Domestic Abuse Assault – Injury or Mental Illness, First Offense (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
