The Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance that escalated into a physical altercation.
On January 28th at approximately 9:16 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance. Upon questioning, Trevor Shepard, 36, of Ottumwa, admitted to being involved in a verbal altercation with the victim that escalated into a physical confrontation.
Officers observed multiple injuries to the victim’s head and hand, consistent with Shepard’s actions. A criminal history check revealed that Shepard has prior convictions for domestic assault, including two previous cases dated April 3, 2020, and November 16, 2022.
Shepard was arrested and is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A no-contact order was issued on January 29th. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 6th.
Shepard faces a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault, 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony.
