A crash involving three vehicles temporarily shut down a section of Highway 92 east of Oskaloosa on Tuesday, sending six people to the hospital for treatment.

Traffic records indicate the collision happened near the 2500 block of IA-92 when a Ford Escape, driven by a 15-year-old juvenile, was stopped in the eastbound lane while preparing to turn left into a private driveway. While the vehicle was stationary, it was struck from behind by a semi-truck operated by 49-year-old Martin Neely of Milan, Missouri.

The force of the rear-end collision pushed the Ford Escape across the center line of the highway, where it collided head-on with a westbound Ford Edge driven by 33-year-old Brooke Thurman of Brooklyn, Iowa.

Emergency responders transported all six individuals involved to Mahaska Health by ambulance. Those injured included Neely; Brooke Thurman; passengers Claira Thurman, 48, and Jordan Thurman, 26; along with two juveniles — the 15-year-old driver of the Escape and a 13-year-old. Authorities confirmed that everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Highway 92 was closed temporarily while emergency crews assisted victims and cleared the scene. No further details on the extent of injuries have been released.
