Joel David Rose was born April 21, 1938 in Ottumwa, Iowa and passed September 3, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona after several years of diminishing health.
David grew up outside of Blakesburg on the family farm raising pigs, baling hay, and swimming in the pond. After graduating from Blakesburg High School, David worked at the John Morrell packing plant and on the assembly line for Maytag in Newton, Iowa. After a few years, David joined the US Army serving in South Korea. He served for 4 years and received his nickname, “Joe”. He was accepted into the Secret Service, serving Dwight D. Eisenhower. He married later in life and relocated to Phoenix, AZ where he drove armored trucks until he retired. Though David did not have many hobbies, he enjoyed going to the rifle range. He matured into a quiet and reserved man after being a colorful youth.
