Fairfield Police are investigating after discovering a deceased individual in a vehicle at the Walmart parking lot on November 22nd, following a welfare check request from the business.
According to Fairfield Police Chief David Thomas, Walmart contacted authorities to request a welfare check on a vehicle that had remained stationary in the parking lot for an extended period. When officers arrived to investigate, they found a body inside the vehicle.
Investigation Details
Chief Thomas confirmed the deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Authorities are handling the case as an unattended death investigation.
“It looks like the business called us for a welfare check because the vehicle hadn’t moved for some time,” Chief Thomas said. “Officers are in the process of conducting an unattended death investigation at this time. This was the only person in the vehicle.”
The department is withholding the individual’s identity pending notification of all family members.
“FPD is not releasing the name until all the family is notified,” Thomas stated.
No Public Safety Concerns
Chief Thomas emphasized there is no danger to the community related to this incident.
“There is no threat to public safety or suspicion of a crime at this time,” he said on Monday, December 1st.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and complete the notification of family members.
