Pekin senior Payten Coleman has made her college plans official, committing to join the competitive cheer and dance squad at Indian Hills Community College. Coleman will continue her athletic career just a short distance from home, becoming one of the latest Pekin athletes to move on to the collegiate level.

Coleman, a longtime contributor in cheer and dance, brings years of experience and a reputation for strength, leadership, and reliability. She said the opportunity at Indian Hills is both exciting and meaningful as she begins her next chapter.

“A new beginning!” Coleman said. “I am so excited to announce my signing with Indian Hills Cheer. I can’t wait to start a new chapter, with new people, and new experiences. Thank you to everyone who has ever supported me and pushed me to achieve this unbelievable dream!”

Indian Hills Head Cheer Coach Cyndi Mellin said Coleman is a strong addition to the Warriors’ program.

“Payten has a strong background in cheer and dance. She began competing at a young age and exhibits the mental toughness of a strong athlete,” Mellin said. “I have recruited her as a base and have utmost confidence that she will serve our competition team well in that capacity!”

Coleman’s decision allows her to continue competing in a highly competitive collegiate environment while staying close to the community that helped shape her. She will join the Warriors next season as IHCC continues building momentum in its cheer and dance programs.
